Amid the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip, it’s easy to forget that this desert city is actually home to a small slice of Florida-style paradise. The Flamingo Hotel & Casino on the south end of the strip is a pink haven for birds and other tropical animals. Its lush gardens and flamingos provide a refreshing respite from the frantic pace of casino gambling and other entertainment options in the area.
The highlight of the Flamingo is its Wildlife Habitat, which is free for guests to enjoy. There are several ponds, streams and waterfalls throughout the gardens where visitors can stroll along at their leisure. The habitat is also home to pelicans, exotic fish and turtles. Visitors can stop by to watch pelican feedings at 8:30am and 2pm, and they can also attend Flamingo Keeper Talks at the habitat.
In addition to the flamingos, there are many other creatures at the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat including Sacred Ibis, brown pelicans and other tropical birds that live in the lush garden setting. This is a great opportunity to get close to exotic birds and take amazing photos of the colorful birds.
During their stay at the Flamingo, visitors can enjoy dining and entertainment options that reflect the hotel’s Latin American roots. The onsite Carlos ‘n Charlie’s Mexican eatery offers mouthwatering Mexican dishes, from deep-fried chimichangas to filling burritos and fajitas. The restaurant also has beautiful views of the Flamingo’s gardens.
The Flamingo is one of the older hotel casinos on the strip, and it’s age definitely shows around the property. However, the hotel has made some improvements recently that make it an excellent choice for families and other visitors. In particular, the casino has added a new fragrance that has helped make the gaming floor much more welcoming. The hotel has also introduced a new parrot photo experience that gives visitors the chance to take photos with beautiful rescued parrots. In addition, the Flamingo now offers a PetStay program that allows pet-friendly rooms (for an additional nightly fee). The rooms come with mats for dogs to sleep on, food and water dishes, treats and waste bags, and they include a refrigerator and microwave.
